 NCDC Alerts Nigerians On Outbreak Of Dengue Virus With Confirmed 71 Cases  The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the outbreak of dengue fever in Sokoto State on Saturday.  The NCDC, in a statement posted on its website, noted that the outbreak was detected in November 2023. The statement signed by the NCDC Director General, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa disclosed that so far, 71 suspected cases, 13 confirmed cases, and zero deaths have been reported in the state from three Local Government Areas -Sokoto South (60 cases), Wamako (three cases) and Dange Shuni (one case). It said the majority of the suspected cases reported fall between the age range of 21- 40 years. Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus and transmitted to humans through the infected mosquito’s bite. Human-to-human transmission of the virus has not been established.   FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLANS TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS MEALS TO 100,000 DISPLACED CHILDREN IN THE NORTH Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, has unveiled the Federal Government's initiative to feed 100,000 displaced children in the Northern region. During a familiarisation tour, Adeniji sought the support of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Mohammed Dantoro, to facilitate the program. Adeniji disclosed that the government aims to kickstart the feeding initiative with 5,000 displaced children in the initial phase, with plans to progressively increase the number to 100,000.
