Former Nigerian governor is dead (PHOTO) A former military governor of old Ondo State, Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), is dead. General Opaleye (rtd) died in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Saturday morning of heart attack. He was military governor old Ondo State (before the creation of present-day Ekiti State) from August, 1986 to December, 1987, during the regime of Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. He took over from Admiral Mike Akhigbe of blessed memory before handing over to Commodore Olabode George. Until his death this Saturday, November 18, 2023, he was the Balogun Erunmu of Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Tinubu seeks support for varsities. President Bola Tinubu has called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in assisting universities in the country. The President noted that the education sector should not be left in the hands of the government alone, saying all stakeholders must develop the sector. He made the call on Saturday, during his presidential address delivered at the 32nd Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State. Represented by a visiting professor of the National Universities Commission, Prof King-David Yawe, the President said due to the capital-intensive nature of the university education, there was a need for joint efforts by the stakeholders, particularly in the area of research funding. He said, “We are all aware that university education is capital-intensive. For adequate funding, therefore, all stakeholders have a role to play.
