The incident unfolded as the unidentified man allegedly engaged in the unauthorized removal of transformer cables in the Jattu community, situated within the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The discovery of his lifeless body suspended between two electric poles near a transformer on the morning of January 29, 2024, startled residents.

According to reports, the victim had taken steps to pilfer the cables by first cutting the cable beneath the transformer and then ascending the electric pole in an attempt to sever the four lengthy cables connecting the transformer to the low tension wire.

Unfortunately, the illicit act resulted in electrocution, leading to the tragic demise of the alleged thief.

Upon learning of the incident, officials from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) promptly arrived at the scene. Subsequently, they removed the deceased's body from its suspended position, marking the conclusion of this unfortunate event.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers associated with tampering with electrical infrastructure.
