 Igbo Leader Calls on Tinubu: Free Nnamdi Kanu for South-East Security

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, issued a fervent appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to employ his constitutional powers for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a comprehensive interview on Arise TV News, Iwuanyanwu underscored the widespread acceptance of Tinubu as the leader among the Igbo community in the South-East.


Iwuanyanwu emphasized that the release of Nnamdi Kanu holds strategic significance, contending that it would facilitate the differentiation between those advocating for the IPOB leader's freedom and criminals exploiting protests in the South-East. According to him, this distinction is vital for security operatives to effectively address the situation in the region.


The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General articulated the sentiments of the Igbo people, stating, “I, as a leader of Igbos, after consultation with my people, we all agree that there was no reason why Nnamdi Kanu should be incarcerated, no reason why he should be detained."


He went on to assert that Kanu's release could potentially ease the job of security agencies by enabling a clear identification of criminals and honest, dedicated Nigerians. Iwuanyanwu further illuminated on the adverse impacts of Kanu's detention, citing instances of criminals leveraging the situation to perpetrate heinous crimes in the South-East.


Moreover, Iwuanyanwu disclosed that he, along with other leaders from the South-East, has sought an appointment with President Tinubu to discuss the matter. Despite Tinubu's busy schedule attending to national and international affairs, Iwuanyanwu expressed optimism that the President would listen to their plea once Kanu is free.


Highlighting the broader context, Iwuanyanwu stated, “Igbos in all the various states in Nigeria have now accepted Tinubu as our president, and we have pledged, and I say that on behalf of our people, that we are going to give Tinubu every support."


However, he stressed the expectation for Tinubu to address the prevailing issue in the South-East and resolve the challenges faced by the Igbo community. The call for Kanu's release is positioned not just as a regional concern but as a matter of national significance, with Iwuanyanwu expressing confidence in Tinubu's commitment to addressing the collective problems of the nation.

  Tinubu seeks support for varsities. President Bola Tinubu has called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in assisting universities in the country.
