 Fidelity Bank CEO Bags Champion Newspapers’ Banker of the Year Award


Fidelity Bank Plc's Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, has added another accolade to her list of achievements by winning the Banker of the Year 2022 award at the Champion Newspapers’ Awards of the Year 2022. The ceremony took place on May 12, 2023, at Eko Hotel and Suites, drawing prominent figures from Nigeria's public and private sectors.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Mrs. Onyeali-Ikpe dedicated the award to the board, management, and staff of Fidelity Bank PLC, as well as her family. The event, attended by her family, friends, and colleagues, celebrated excellence in various fields.

Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, the Chairman of the occasion and Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, emphasized the importance of rewarding hard work and integrity, stating that failure to do so would promote mediocrity. He commended the awardees, acknowledging their fitness and propriety in receiving the prestigious awards.

Dr. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, the Group Managing Director of Champion Newspapers, highlighted the need for continued efforts to unlock Nigeria's full potential, particularly in the ease of doing business. She urged the incoming administration to address administrative structures and eliminate bottlenecks, fostering an environment that encourages greater foreign earnings beyond oil.

Other notable awardees at the event included Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who received the Man of the Year Award; Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere Leader, honored with the Life Achievement Award; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, awarded Governor of the Year; Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, recognized with the Governor of the Year, Good Governance award; Chief Dr. Cyril Onyekwelu Umunna Ajagu, acknowledged as the Most Outstanding Savvy Investor of the Year; and High Chief Michael Onuoha, presented with the Most Innovative Brand CEO of the Year award.

This latest recognition for Mrs. Onyeali-Ikpe follows her Banker of the Year 2022 award at the 14th Leadership Annual Conference and Awards in January 2023, and the Best Banking CEO Nigeria 2023 title in the 2023 Global Banking & Finance Awards in April 2023. Additionally, she was listed as one of the top 10 female finalists in the Africa.com Definitive List of Women Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).

  Tinubu seeks support for varsities. President Bola Tinubu has called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in assisting universities in the country. The President noted that the education sector should not be left in the hands of the government alone, saying all stakeholders must develop the sector.
