 Bandits kidnap Abuja newspaper distributors’ president



John Emmanuel, President of Abuja Newspapers Distributors’ Association, has been kidnapped. On Thursday Emmanuel was abducted while returning home from work on Tuesday night (Dec. 12).

Unbeknownst to him, he boarded a “one-chance” vehicle and fell victim to their antics. “One-chance” is commonly used in Nigeria to refer to fraud; especially when a group of criminals disguised as taxi drivers pick up passengers to rob or defraud them.

Mrs Uche Emmanuel, the victim’s wife, said that her husband’s kidnappers are demanding N15 million to release him. Police authorities said they could not launch a rescue operation, because no report was made. “There is no such incident reported at any of our stations for now,” Abuja police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said.

  Tinubu seeks support for varsities. President Bola Tinubu has called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in assisting universities in the country. The President noted that the education sector should not be left in the hands of the government alone, saying all stakeholders must develop the sector.
