Petrol tanker falls, spills content in Anambra

Petrol tanker falls, spills content in Anambra

On Friday at the Agu-Awka Junction near Awka, Anambra State, a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) overturned and spilled its content due to brake failure while navigating a road with bad portions.

Thankfully, no casualties occurred, and disaster was averted due to the prompt response of the Anambra State Fire Service.

They quickly arrived at the scene and successfully neutralized the spilled PMS to prevent any potential fire outbreak.

Security personnel were present to prevent the public from accessing the crash site to avoid unauthorized collection of petrol.

Martin Agbili, the State Fire Chief, expressed gratitude to the Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for their assistance in crowd and traffic control, facilitating the firefighters' effective response.

Agbili confirmed that the trans-loading of the petrol tanker's content was completed during the night. Using a combination of water and chemical foam compound, the flowing PMS was diluted to eliminate the risk of ignition.

He reassured that no lives were lost, and despite minor damage to the truck, the tanker's content was successfully preserved.
